Wedding Food Trends 2026
by Chapelle Johnson – Updated Oct 28, 2025
Finding the top wedding catering trends can be difficult if you don’t know where to look and who to ask. That’s why we spoke to numerous wedding pros to get the inside scoop on the trends in catering.
Menus That Tell a Story
Starting next year, you’ll see trends in catering that focus on foods that represent a couple’s love story. “With the vast amount of weddings happening every year, it can be challenging to set your wedding apart from others. A way this can be done is through storytelling. Sharing that journey in your food offerings is a way to make the food experience unique. For example, a couple may have had their first date in Italy, got engaged in the Caribbean and then had a vacation in Alaska. You can create a food journey with those places for the menu theme throughout various courses,” says Michael Thomas, owner of John Michael Catering and Weddings since 1995.
An extension of this trend is incorporating local food to honor the wedding location. “Heritage and indigenous ingredients are gaining newfound recognition and popularity as chefs and food enthusiasts alike embrace the rich cultural histories and flavors these ingredients bring to the table,” says Bridget Bitza, chief revenue officer of Butler’s Pantry and passionate foodie.
High-Low Menu Pairings
“The high-low food and drink pairing reflects a way for folks to feel nostalgia while also indulging in something special. Mixing foods that are more familiar to guests, like chicken nuggets, with a higherbrow offering, such as a gold leaf garnish and Champagne, is a play on people’s nostalgia, creating a contrasting experience that’s both comforting and indulgent,” says Bitza. If you love this idea, we suggest basing your high-low pairing on your relationship so guests get to know more about you. For example, if you proposed to your partner at a baseball game and went out for martinis after, consider serving mini hot dogs and dirty martinis during cocktail hour.
Raw Seafood Bars
Who doesn’t love catering food trends that involve food being prepared in front of you? Raw seafood bars are eye-catching and let your guests know they’re about to indulge in the freshest food. “We love an oyster moment and we think it’s time they have a reimagined renaissance. With Pinch Food Design, we’ve built the trench into our custom table, creating the perfect tableau for your fresh oysters, clams or shrimp,” says Carly Katz-Hackman, food enthusiast and chief sales officer of Pinch Food Design. If you like this trend idea but want a passed appetizer version, consider hiring an oyster shucker for your wedding.
Authentic Street Food
You’ll see plenty of new food trends on catering menus in 2026, but street food is a current craze that isn’t going anywhere. Every country and culture has its version of street food that’s full of unique flavors and spices. Street food, typically made by street vendors, can be savory or sweet delights made into handheld portions for easy transport. “Global foods have been influencing the wedding world, including interpretations of classic street-style foods. Think: Upscale bao buns, a build-your-own dumpling station, seared tuna tacos topped with caviar or deconstructed sushi roll bowls,” says Bitza. But remember, you don’t need to transform these types of dishes into fine dining masterpieces. When you’re trying to find a wedding caterer that can pull off this trend, keep it simple and delicious, and we promise you your guests will love it.
